Hostas underneath an Acer griseum (left) - a suburban garden can look great with architectural form and structural foliage. Acer griseum is ideal as it grows to a maximum of 15ft

Ceanothus (right) makes excellent fence covering and gives spring colour in the relatively rare blue hue for the garden.

This garden, belonging to R & V is planned to blend in with the woods behind in both summer and winter. Soft curves are the answer, they believe.

Tulips at their best in H & M's spring garden. Tulips are their speciality including the broody black tulip.
